Suspension of Borrowing Privileges

Library materials loan policy
- Books
- Faculty, staff, and administrators may borrow 2 books at a time for a period of 21 days.
- The 2 book limit does not include borrowing of audiovisual materials.
- Students may borrow 2 books at a time for a period of 7 days.
- Books can not be renewed.
- Reference books
- Faculty, staff, and administrators may borrow reference materials for a period of 48 hours with the permission of the librarian. Failure to return a reference book in a timely manner may result in suspension of library privileges.
- Students may not borrow reference books.
- Course reserve
- Faculty, staff, and administrators may borrow reference materials for a period of 48 hours with the permission of the librarian. Failure to return a reference book in a timely manner may result in suspension of library privileges.
- Audiovisual (DVD, VHS, CD-ROM)
- Faculty, staff, and administrators may borrow audiovisual materials for a period of 48 hours. Failure to return a reference book in a timely manner may result in suspension of library privileges.
- Faculty, staff, and administrators will be expected to replace lost audiovisual materials with the same title, or a comparable title of similar value, pending approval of the LRC manager. Repeat delinquency will be brought to the attention of the appropriate department head.
- Students may not borrow audiovisual materials.
- Serials
- Student may not borrow print serials. Students are encouraged to make use of the extensive selection of online books, journals, magazines, and newspapers.
- Faculty, staff, and administrators may borrow print serials for a period of 48 hours.
- Weekend Policy: Faculty may check out AV, references, and/or journals from Friday to the following Monday during the weekend. The materials have to be returned on Monday.
Fines and Lost Books
- Library patrons will not be charged fines for daily overdue materials.
- Materials not returned on or by the specified due date will be considered lost and will be subject to a replacement book fee. The lost book fee is $80.00 per lost item (books only).
- If the original item is returned to the LRC in good condition the lost book fee may be waved.
- The fee for lost audiovisual materials will be equal to the replacement cost of the given item, which varies by title.
- In lieu of lost book charges, the Learning Resource Center provides the option to accept purchase of a replacement.
- The patron may purchase the lost title for replacement, or a new edition of that title.
- At the LRC manager's discretion a similar title of comparable value may be purchased in lieu of the lost book fee.
- A patron's wishing to purchase a replacement title must complete a Lost Book Replacement Request form and submit it to the librarian before purchasing a replacement title.
- Failure to return the book or pay the lost book fee will result in suspension of ability to obtain diploma and transcripts.
- Faculty, staff, and administrators are subject to additional fines.
- Payment in person can be made at the Business Office(?).
Overdue Notices & Lost and Billed Notification
- Patrons are expected to keep track of the due date of borrowed materials. Two weeks before the end of each semester the LRC staff will attempt to notify patrons regarding overdue library materials.
Suspension of Borrowing Privileges
- All patrons are subject to suspension of library borrowing privileges.
- Borrowing Privileges may be suspended for non-payment of lost book fees or willful destruction of library materials.
- Faculty borrowing of books may be suspended, but suspension of privileges will not apply to audiovisual materials.
- Faculty who feels the suspension of a given student's borrowing privilege negatively impacts a course assignment has the option of borrowing a book on behalf of the student. The faculty will be solely responsible for the return of the item, as well as any fines which accrue.
Patron block:
- Effects two weeks after the due date of an unreturned materials, a patron (staff, faculty, or student) will not be allowed to check out any more materials until he/she returns the overdued item(s).
- The updated policy will be started on Tuesday, September 7, 2010. Meanwhile, I will be sending out overdue reminder to you if you have any overdued LRC item. If the item is not returned before 9/7/2010, you will be blocked from checking out any more materials from the LRC.
- Please do not share the item that you checked out with any student, staff, or faculty. If the person does not return the item for you before the due date and pass the 2 weeks of grace period, you will be responsible and placed in the patron block. Any missing item will be fined for $80.
